Major Case Squad
Family/Education:
Megan Wheeler was raised by her mother after her father, Johnny Wheeler, disappeared when she was ten. Before his disappearance, the family lived well. They had a nice house, two cars, and Wheeler attended a private school. After his disappearance, the money dried up, and Wheeler's mother worked three jobs to support her two daughters and herself. Her uncle dropped out of her life about the same time her father did, as he and her mother did not get along.
Wheeler's younger sister, three years younger, and Wheeler are not terribly close. They have an amiable relationship, and they e-mail one another on a semi-regular basis, but they keep a fair distance. Nicole Wheeler, Megan's younger sister, lives with her husband and son in the suburbs, and she tries to keep in contact with her sister, mostly worried that something will happen to Megan and there won't be anyone to notice.
Wheeler transferred to public school, and she worked to keep her grades high. She averaged a 3.75 GPA, enough for a scholarship to NYU. She majored in history, keeping a 3.5 GPA. She went into the police academy at twenty-one, joining the force when she completed her training at twenty-two.
She joined the local police force, doing desk work for some time. Finally, she was assigned to a beat with a rough-and-tough cop of fifteen years. He took her for granted most of the time, as she was a rookie and he felt almost insulted to have her as a partner. However, she proved her worth during the long, complaint-free hours she spent filing the paperwork necessary for his loose cannon style. She gave him the space he needed, and he grew to have at least a passing fondness for the "kid." They worked together for four years until Wheeler took and passed the detectives exam. She was transferred to narcotics and met Lilian Sikes, her new partner. They worked together for another six years, developing a rapport and a rhythm that made them an almost unbeatable team, especially in interrogation.
When a major bust cropped up on their beat, Wheeler and Sikes worked with a number of different squads, including a task force organized to track international money laundering. The force was headed by Danny Ross, and Wheeler found herself working closely with him and several detectives, trying to follow the money to determine who the parties involved with the buy gone bad had been. A fresh face was needed for an undercover buy, and Wheeler volunteered herself. The dealer was arrested, but he was a small fish, near the bottom of the chain. There were others to be caught. Wheeler had some difficulty saying goodbye to Sikes, but they parted on good terms.
On his invitation, Wheeler became part of the force led by Danny Ross, and her youth helped her to go undercover without ever being made for a cop. When he transferred to Major Case, she followed. After a short time with MCS, Wheeler was transferred to Europe to assist in teaching the police force there about American procedure.
Personality:
Megan Wheeler is generally calm, and she does not like to jump to conclusions. She likes to stack all of the evidence and see what the facts say. She doesn't let herself get riled easily, handling difficult perps and high stress situations without letting herself appear anxious. Whatever is required of her for a case, she'll do. After many years of working undercover, she can assume any role she is told for interviews and interrogations.
Wheeler keeps to herself about personal matters. She doesn't talk much about her family, her answers short enough not to reveal more than she wants to but long enough to satisfy. When a personal situation arises, like information on her father, she handles it quietly and personally, giving simple, evasive answers to keep others from interfering while she quietly goes her own way.
Traits, Weaknesses, Quirks:
Wheeler has an independent streak, born from being the oldest of two children and often being on her own after her father left. Because of this, she can decide to go off on her own, leaving no one with information on where she is or who she's with. This independent streak also affects Wheeler's ability to trust. Day to day issues or job issues, she can handle, trust people with. Her partner has her trust. However, when deeply personal issues are brought to the fore, she finds ways to cut the conversation short, derail it, or otherwise deflect attention from the idea that she is not trusting whomever she is talking to with intimate details of the situation.
Wheeler likes rules, and she does not like bending or sidestepping them in large degrees. While she can understand the necessity of not always following the letter of the book, she is not one to get too close to the line. Her attention to rules can often help balance out a more loose cannon partner, but it leaves Wheeler more cautious. She gets along well with authority figures, which can lead to others feeling like she is sucking up.
Years of undercover work, all under Danny Ross, have built an innate trust of superiors (as far as work is concerned) into Wheeler. She receives her orders and follows them with little question. She has little suspicion of those above her on the force, and she rarely has much conflict with those in the D.A.'s office, probably because of her attention to staying within the letter of the law rather than pushing boundaries.
I am not Megan Wheeler or Julianne Nicholson. This is all fictional and makes no profit.
